This is due to the fact patients within the clinical trials did not report back to have experienced some of the side effects associated with the other PDE-5 inhibitors, i.e. blurred vision or slight hearing loss.

Spedra has been shown to have an impressive success rate of 77% and is rapidly becoming well known for being the quickest acting male impotence treatment there is. Can ginseng improve Erectile Dysfunction?

For the study, Scientists from the Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, enlisted 119 men who had all suffered with ED for at least three months, ranging from mild to moderate in severity.

Half of the group were given four tablets every day for eight weeks that contained 350mg of Korean ginseng berry extracts. The other men were administered identical ‘dummy’ placebo pills for the same time period.

Using the widely accepted measuring scale known as the International Index of Erectile Dysfunction (IIEF)-15), scientists noted that in the men who were taking the ginseng tablets, there was a ‘small but significant’ improvement in their sexual function in comparison to the men in the control group taking the dummy pills. The IIEF-15 comes in the form of 15 questions regarding erectile function and sexual satisfaction.

When publishing the results in the International Journal of Impotence Research, researchers commented: “Korean ginseng berry extract improved all domains of sexual function. It can be used as an alternative to medicine to improve sexual life in men.”

It could be too early to tell if Korean ginseng is definitely an answer for the millions of men around the world who are suffering with erectile dysfunction. The herb is unlikely to affect the massive demand for medically proven and recognised impotence treatments – Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. In addition, NHS Choices have published a thoroughly detailed article, questioning the claims of the study and suggesting that the authors were being overly generous when stating that ginseng can be used to improve sexual function, putting a positive spin on the results.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common long-term digestive conditions in the world. It can develop at any age but the most sufferers will first start to develop symptoms between the ages of 15 and 40. It is estimated there are a staggering 12 million people in the UK alone who are suffering from the stomach condition. Most GPs, on a general rule of thumb, will first operate on the ‘ABC’ of symptoms for diagnosis. New erectile dysfunction medication awaiting FDA approval

Vivus Inc. have announced that they have submitted a “New Drug Application” (NDA) to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), for a new medication to be entered into the lucrative $4 billion erectile dysfunction market.  The new drug, named “Avanafil”, may take several months for its FDA approval to be confirmed and will be thrust into an increasingly competitive market that already includes Viagra, Cialis, and the newly introduced Levitra Orodispersible tablets.

Clinical trials with Avanafil have taken place involving over 1,350 subjects, with 50mg, 100mg, and 200mg dosage strengths being analysed. The NDA submitted by Vivus is backed up by including data from Phase 3 trials and these trials were said to have proved the drug’s safety and efficacy. Results showed that patients who had taken the 200mg dose, had achieved an erection sufficient for penetration in 77% and 63% of the trials, in comparison to just 54% and 42% in patients dosed placebo. In addition, many patients were able to have successful intercourse in a mere 15 minutes of taking Avanafil.

With the patent for Viagra due to expire in 2012, the market for impotence medication will become very interesting in the following year and we may yet see many more new and exciting products being introduced.

Turns out you do need Viagra like a heart attack

if you’re having trouble with sex, you may have a problem Viagra won’t fix.

A study published this week in Circulation delivered the bad news.

Researchers at the Medical University of the Saarland in Germany looked at people in two hypertension drug studies who also had erectile dysfunction (ED).

Those who had ED were most likely to die of a heart attack, stroke or other heart problem — they called it a “potent predictor of all-cause death.”

In other words if you have ED, you may have advanced heart disease. You are twice as likely to die of it as someone without ED.

The two studies examined were TRANSCEND, which was testing an angiotensin-receptor blocker (ARB) on people who had trouble with angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and ONTARGET, which tested the two drugs in combination.

Full disclosure. I presently take a daily pill which combines an ARB with a Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB), called EXFORGE, which works well on my hypertension. (I also take a generic statin.) I don’t have ED.

The main recommendation from all this is that doctors should ask about ED when they’re doing a work-up on heart disease. So you don’t have to ask your doctor about ED anymore. They should ask you.

And if you answer yes, your doctor may start looking for other risk factors and treating you as a heart patient, not just as someone looking to have a good time.

One word of warning. The two studies the German doctors looked at were of patients who already had heart disease, which is why they were seeking ARBs and ACE inhibitors in the first place. If you’re young and healthy and your ED problem isn’t a regular thing, the solution may lie elsewhere. Like your head.

Bicycle riding and erectile dysfunction

For many years, reports in the literature have implicated bicycle riding as causing increased risk of erectile dysfunction (ED). Perineal compression during cycling has been associated with the development of sexual complications.

To review current literature on the rationale for ED from bicycle riding and outcome of bicycle riding on erectile function and to present available research on preventative measures specifically regarding bicycle riding.

A systematic comprehensive literature review. Results. There is a significant relationship between cycling-induced perineal compression leading to vascular, endothelial, and neurogenic dysfunction in men and the development of ED. Research on female bicyclists is very limited but indicates the same impairment as in male bicyclists. Preventative measures including use of a properly fitted bicycle, a riding style with a suitable seat position and an appropriate bicycle seat can help prevent impairment of erectile function.

There is a need for further research on safe bicycle and bicycle seat design and investigations that address the underlying mechanisms leading to cycling-related sexual dysfunction in both male and female bicyclists.

jails giving Viagra to hardened criminals

London, Jan 24 (ANI): Lags freed from Belmarsh jail, south London, on home leave are being handed Viagra to make sure they perform between the sheets when they visit their loved ones.

A source at the prison said convicts serving long sentences could suffer a loss of libido when faced with the prospect of nookie after a long stint behind bars.

"On your first home leave, meeting up with the missus or girlfriend can be a bit daunting. If you have Viagra your pocket, at least you know you're going to be able to deliver," News of the World quoted a lag as saying.

However, news that the 5-pound-a-go little blue pills which boost men's sex drive are being freely dished out to serious hard men will enrage victims' families.

One prison insider said: "It's pretty rich. The system in England, Scotland and Wales is making Viagra available so prisoners can perform between the sheets when they visit their loved ones.

"Inmates nearing the end of their sentence or those held at open prisons are eligible for home release. It must be costing a fortune," the insider added.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman confirmed: "We issue Viagra after the prisoner has met with the jail's GP. A clinical decision based on the prisoner's health would be made."

New erectile dysfunction drug called Avanafil will be much faster than Viagra, Cialis & Levitra

A Pharmaceutical company called Vivus is hoping to launch an erectile dysfunction drug called avanafil. Vivus issued a press release stating that there new drug Avanafil will be much faster than Viagra Cialis & Levitra.
Mr Leland Wilson, chief executive officer of VIVUS stated "Erectile dysfunction is a significant problem among more than half of all men over the age of 40. While sales of currently available ED therapies exceed $3.8 billion a year, persistent switching by patients suggests that patients are less than satisfied with current therapies," "These phase 3 avanafil data not only confirm the robust efficacy we've seen in earlier trials, but potentially differentiate avanafil from other PDE5 inhibitors when it comes to side effects and time-to-onset of efficacy. We are confident that avanafil can effectively compete in the oral ED therapy market."
Mr Charles Bowden, M.D., Senior Director, Clinical Development at VIVUS stated "From our discussions with patients and physicians, we knew that rapid onset was an important attribute in the selection of an ED therapy. A recent study in 1,900 patients with ED showed that 75% of patients identified rapid effect as an important treatment expectation. Knowing that avanafil can be effective within 15 minutes should create an attractive position in the PDE5 market,"
Existing erectile dysfunction medication tends to work after 30 minutes and therefore this would make Avanafil’s shorter effective medication of 15 minutes quite popular.
