Explaining her reasoning behind in introduction of the latest bill, she said: “I want to protect these men from themselves. This is about family values.”

She added that any man needing impotence treatments would be required to “make a sworn statement with his hand on a Bible that he will only use a prescription for a drug for erectile dysfunction when having sexual relations with his current spouse.

“I started thinking: ‘how would this body men feel if the government was injecting itself into their private medical decision?’”

Ms Marzian, a 61-year-old retired nurse and abortion rights supporter, says that the U.S. government should not be allowed to meddle with people’s medical decisions.

She said: “We are very ‘family values’ in the Kentucky General Assembly – they are all awash in Christian family values, so that’s why I put that part in there that erectile pills can only be used in a marital relationship.”

However, Ms Marzian did concede that the ‘symbolic’ new bill may not get too much backing behind it. Moreover, further controversial plans have been put forth.

One such idea would be a bill that forces people purchasing firearms to receive counselling from victims of gun violence 24 hours before their purchase.

“I’m just making sure the government is taking care of your safety,” she added.

Speaking to Reuters by telephone, she said: “My point is to illustrate how intrusive and ridiculous it is for elected officials to be inserting themselves into private and personal medical decisions.”

Men are warned: buying fake Viagra poses serious health risks

The study comes after Australia’s drug regulator last week, warned men not to buy or consume two products, claiming to contain 100 per cent herbal ingredients, Ultra Men for Men and Rock Hard for Men. Decrease in erectile function associated with age was partially restored 15 to 20 minutes after injection with PnTx2-6.”

Condom sales in Georgia on the Rise

Data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia has highlighted a 29% increase in the total amount of investment in the import of condoms from $350,000 to $450,000 in 2010 from the same period in 2009.

350 jobs to be saved at Pfizer research centre in Kent

Pfizer who are one of the largest drugs companies in the world has decided  to keep 350 staff at research and development facility in Sandwich, Kent, which invented the best selling drug Viagra. – But 1,500 workers will still get the axe.

It had originally caused outrage from the government when it announced plans to close its research and development facility. But the multinational has said it will retain part of the operation, while closing the rest of the site by the end of 2012.

The company said it hopes that new investors will be attracted to join them at the site now that it has pledged to maintain a presence there. Pfizer said the positions will support the development of products in its mid and late-stage pipeline.

Dr Ruth McKernan, of Pfizer, said: “We are hopeful that by retaining this core group, Pfizer will be the first of many companies to locate on the site. “We remain focused on securing new owners and investment into Discovery Park.”

Dr Annette Doherty, who will take over from Dr McKernan as the new site director at Sandwich, said: "Pfizer's retained pharmaceutical sciences operations at Sandwich will maintain a nucleus of industry leading talent, skills and capabilities in science and technology at the site. "It will be a key part of my role as site director to support the hard work that is being done to find new uses for the site, and continue to support colleagues through the transition as we proceed with our phased exit of the site."

Pfizer to close Sandwich site, home of Viagra

Pfizer Inc is to close its research and development centre in Sandwich in Kent, which employs 2,400 people, dealing a major blow to the UK’s scientific work place. The world's biggest drug maker said on Tuesday it would exit the site over the next 18 to 24 months as part of a global program to create a more focused and sustainable R&D machine.

The closure is the latest in a wave of research cutbacks by large pharmaceuticals, which face a record number of patent expires on big-selling medicines that will slash revenue. The majority of those working at Sandwich will be made redundant, although "several hundred" may be transferred to other Pfizer sites or external partners, the U.S. company said.

"This is a shocking wake-up call," said Colin Blakemore, professor of neuroscience at the University of Oxford. "We must respond to this signal that one of our most important industries no longer has confidence in the future of British science."

Sandwich is Pfizer's biggest R&D facility in Europe and the largest R&D site of any foreign-owned drug maker in Britain. It has been a base for drug discovery at the group since 1954. Business minister, Vince Cable, said the move was "extremely disappointing" and the government would be meeting with Pfizer as a matter of urgency to discuss alternative ways of using the facilities and buildings.

Pfizer insisted the move was no reflection on the workforce or the operating environment in Britain but Linda McCulloch, national officer for the Unite trade union, said it would be "devastating" for the local economy.
The UK has traditionally punched above its weight in drug research, but has been hit in the past year by planned cuts at AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline.

Nepal court to rule on 'Himalayan Viagra' murders

A court in Nepal was Wednesday due to give its verdict in the case of 36 villagers charged with a series of gruesome murders in a battle over a highly prized plant dubbed the "Himalayan Viagra".

The defendants make up nearly all the male population of the tiny village of Nar, 4,000 metres (13,000 feet) high in the Himalayas, where the bodies of seven men who disappeared after going to hunt for the plant were found in 2009.

The 36 all deny murder and say the victims, who were from outside the village, died accidentally when a fight broke out over the right to hunt for the rare parasitic plant, Yarchagumba.

Drug giant Pfizer to cut 6,000 jobs, 8 plants in wake of Wyeth purchase

Pfizer will cut 6,000 jobs, or 18% of its worldwide workforce, as it pares back operations following last year's purchase of rival Wyeth.

The world's biggest drugmaker - which sells Viagra UK and cholesterol drug Lipitor - said yesterday it plans to cease operations at eight plants in the U.S. and Ireland by 2015, and reduce activities at six factories in those countries, plus Germany and Britain.

Pfizer can be more competitive, both in its operations and drug pricing, by streamlining its plants and improving their processes, said Nat Ricciardi, president of manufacturing at Manhattan-based Pfizer.

Pfizer had 40 manufacturing sites before acquiring more than three dozen Wyeth facilities in the October merger. The company said in April it would cut 20,000 jobs as it integrates Wyeth, which it bought for $68 billion.
Pfizer gained an assortment of products from Wyeth, including the biotech drug Enbrel for rheumatoid arthritis, menopause treatments Premarin and Prempro, and Prevnar for children's pneumococcal diseases. Wyeth products contributed more than $5 billion in revenue to Pfizer during the first quarter.

Morales told an environmental conference on Tuesday that chicken producers inject the birds with female hormones, which he said can lead to baldness and sexual issues in men who eat the chicken.
There's an amount of confusion over exactly what Morales said, depending on which translation you read. The Associated Press reported that he said 'and because of that, men who consume them have problems being men' - suggesting he was talking about chickens causing impotence.
But another news agency, Agence France-Presse, reported his comments as 'when men eat those chickens, they experience deviances in being men.' Which sounds a bit more like he's blaming chickens for men becoming gay.

Either way, Morales' warning may be out of date: Chicken producers in Europe, the United States and many other countries say they abandoned the use of hormones in poultry several decades ago and many if not most Western nations ban them outright.
And in any case, Morales has his biochemistry the wrong way round - on the baldness issue, at least. Male pattern baldness is linked to dihydrotestosterone, a predominantly male hormone, not to female hormones. So you're probably okay to keep eating chickens and shouldn’t need the Viagra UK

Canadian Pharmacy spammers live on twitter

According to theregister.co.uk Canadian Pharmacy spammers has set up an account on Twitter, staying online for weeks despite complaints from a leading security firm.

The Twitter account @canadianshop features nothing beyond links to unlicensed sites selling Viagra and other prescription medicines - just the sort of thing that would normally bring down a ban-hammer in short order. Yet despite repeated complaints by IT security firm Sophos for more than a week nothing has been done.

The account has been live on Twitter for the last month. In contrast to the site's prolonged inaction, URL shortening service bit.ly has blocked most (though not all) of @canadianshop's custom links. "When bit.ly shuts one down, the bad guys can just create another one," a Sophos spokesman explained.

Many accounts on Twitter push out spamvertised links but @canadianshop is unusually obvious about it. "It has Canadian pharmacy wallpaper and explicit tweets saying what it's selling," the spokesman said.

"This isn't someone linking to something that pretends to be saucy content and then takes you to an online drugs store. Nor is it accounts that have been hacked and are spamming out pharma links. This is blatant promotion of pharmacy sites that are normally advertised via email spam, in order to sell Viagra UK.

Pfizer to loses Viagra patent in Brazil

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has lost the sole right to manufacture Viagra UK in Brazil after judges decided the market for the drug should be opened up.

The country's Supreme Federal Court voted 5-1 in favour of overturning an earlier lower court ruling that gave the firm exclusivity until June 2011.

The decision, which paves the way for a raft of generic versions of the erectile dysfunction treatment, was made after Brazil's National Institute of Industrial Property said the patent should be allowed to expire on June 20.

Pfizer, which may yet appeal the ruling, argued it had been given a 10-year patent by the European Commission in June 1991.

Around 7.1 million doses of the blue pill, which works by increasing blood flow, have been sold in the country since 2007.

Viagra is one of the most popular drugs in the world.

Pfizer to Sue Teva Over Generic illegal Viagra

Pfizer has sued generic drug-maker Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries LTD in a federal court to halt a generic version of the company’s erectile-dysfunction drug, Viagra, from being sold domestically until 2019, according to reports.

The pharmaceutical behemoth opposes the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval to allow sale of the generic drug by Teva upon expiration of Pfizer’s primary patent in March of 2012 according to The Wall Street Journal.

Viagra is also protected by a patent covering the drug’s use for erectile dysfunction which doesn’t expire until October of 2019; however, Teva, which notified Pfizer of its intent to sell the generic in 2004, claims the 2019 patent “is invalid and/0r will not be infringed” upon by its generic, the paper said.

Shares of Pfizer fell 11 cents or 0.64% in Wednesday’s trading, closing at $17.15 a share
